France’s Bioptimus Releases Open Source AI Model for Disease Diagnosis
That’s right, open source medical diagnostic tasks. As in…it…is…free….
This could be a huge benefit for healthcare costs but could also be the most disruptive technology ever. For example, K Health, an AI-based American startup behind a chatbot that speaks to patients, recently raised $50 million in a transaction that values the company at about $900 million…for a chatbot. What happens to those investments when the product is available for free?
From the Bioptimus press release:
“Less than five months after its launch, French startup Bioptimus has announced the release of H-optimus-0, the world’s largest open-source AI foundation model for pathology. With 1.1 billion parameters, H-optimus-0 is trained on a proprietary dataset of several hundreds of millions of images extracted from over 500,000 histopathology slides across 4,000 clinical practices.”
As an open-source model, H-optimus-0 can be utilized freely by institutions worldwide. They hope to encourage novel digital pathology models and foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and developers for rapid implementation and adoption.
Developers can access the model, detailed documentation and research findings at Bioptimus’ GitHub repository here.
